Introduction

Aalok Shrivastav is a well-known name in Indian literature and television journalism. Active in the field of literature for nearly three decades, Aalok’s books Aameen and Aasaan (Poetry collections) & Aafreen (Story collection) are widely popular. He is also the editor of four books of poetry collections.

A consistent writer for films and television, Aalok has penned songs for the internationally awarded film Patang: The Kite, the National Award-winning film “Can’t Take This Shit Anymore”, as well as “Vodka Diaries” and A.R. Rahman’s presentation “Atkan-Chatkan”. Aalok is one of the most prominent young lyrics writers, whose songs have been voiced by legends, like the late ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh, Pankaj Udhas, Hariharan, Shankar Mahadevan, Rekha Bhardwaj, Shaan, Sonu Nigam, Kailash Kher, the renowned classical vocalist Ustad Rashid Khan, Shubha Mudgal, and even the superstar Amitabh Bachchan. His lyrics are also featured in the Grammy-nominated album Traveller by acclaimed sitarist Anoushka Shankar. His solo album 'Eternal' recorded with ghazal singer Jaswinder Singh and 'Noor' recorded with ghazal singer Sudeep Banerji was honored with the 'IIMA Best Album of the Year awards'. Aalok’s Hindi translations of 'Shiv Tandav Stotra' and 'Rudrashtakam' are exceptional examples of his literary craftsmanship, made highly popular by the voice rendition of the celebrated actor & Author Ashutosh Rana. 

The Madhya Pradesh Sahitya Akademi and Urdu Akademi have honored Aalok Shrivastav for his remarkable contributions to the field of ghazals writing. He is the youngest creator to ever receive globally revered- Russia’s International Pushkin Award. Winner of the Parampara Rituraj Award for poetry, Aalok was also conferred with the International Hindi Award in Washington D.C. in 2014 and was honored by Katha UK in the British Parliament’s House of Commons in London. Having traveled for literary events across more than 20 countries — including the U.S., England, Russia, South Africa, Kenya, and various Arab nations. 

Aalok Shrivastav is a television journalist by profession. In his two decades of journalism, he has worked with major media organizations such as Dainik Bhaskar, India TV, AajTak, and Doordarshan. Along with his work in television journalism, he continues to write lyrics and stories for films, and also shares his creative journey through his solo - poetry and storytelling show "AalokNama”, which is very popular in literary circles.


The Society for Culture & Environment will hold the fourth edition of 'Heartland Stories — Bhopal Literature and Art Festival 2022 as a physical cum virtual event, between 25-27th March 2022.
